What kind of fishing rod and reel should I buy?
I am looking into buying a fishing rod and/or reel for my dad, but I have NO idea what to even look at. I want something that is good quality. Do you think I can buy one, or both for $100 or less? Any suggestions on what brand or kind of rod/reel I should get?
Some background info: he mostly fishes off the shore, but will occasionally go deep sea fishing. His favorite catch is the striper, but also catches things like black sea bass and other salt water fish. No idea what kind of bait he uses ( I don't know if that even matters for the rod/reel) but I am trying to be as descriptive as possible

Getting a quality reel for less than $100 will be hard. Its not a good idea to buy him a rod or reel, a gift certificate is the best option, as its all too easy to buy the wrong reel. A multi tool like those by gerber or leatherman are an excellent item to have when fishing. I buy almost all of my gear from cabelas and find them very good, i would recommend cabelas over bass pro, for items that make good gifts
