What would happen if I use 7+wt line on my 5 wt fly rod?
I would like to use larger size flies (ie bass flies) on my current setup... It's a ugly frustrating mess to cast them now. I have a extra reel so I figured: why not? As of now I can't get them out with any distance or accuracy, thought heavier line would help.
This will over flex your 5 wt (and the end result will be that your line will not travel further.) Bass flies usually work best with a rocket taper line. Try a species-specific line to see if this helps. Most Bass lines start at 7wt...
