Can anyone help me make a fishing pole?
I want to make a fishing pole out of some kind of wood but I don't know
a) what kind of wood to use
b) where those things on the pole that the line goes through (and what they're called)
c) what kind of reel to use (for freshwater fish and not a fly-fishing reel)
if anyone knows any of this or any other kink of tips just let me know, as you can probably tell i don't know too much about fishing but i just really want to make this rod.
The only wood I have ever used to make a rod is split bamboo. These rods can get very expensive very quickly. As for the guides, those thingys the line runs through, you can order a complete set through several catalogs. Before you get started, I would go to the library and see about getting a copy of Custom Advanced Rod Building by Dale P Clemens. It will give you all you need to know about wrapping on the guides and the proper spacing for them. Also, as for a handle, complete handle sections can be purchased along with a reel seat for any type of reel. There are several measurements you will need to have before you get any of these things.
