Man's rights?
Birds were given wings to fly. Fish were given gills to breathe underwater. Man has only his intelligence, and he should be able to use this however he pleases, just as a bird flies of a fish swims.
Do you agree with this logic, in that man should be able to do whatever he wants?
What mankind/humankind has is intelligence and reasoning and the ability to see the wider picture. And with that comes responsibility. Yes, humankind has desires and yes, we should fulfill out desires, but with caution.
Our true gifts are reasoning, curiosity, compassion, forgiveness and love. These are things we need to extend to other human beings and to the entire world. And these aren't the ramblings of a religious nut either - I'm an athiest.
So we really should care for each other and for our planet. We should teach our future generations how to show kindness to others, whilst still exploring the pleasures and wonders of life, and we have to explore our curiosity with knowledge and science. That doesn't mean we do anything we want to - if fact we can't do that. Life has a habit of intruding with things like disease and natural disasters. And that's where the qualities of knowledge and compassion comes into things. We all seem to pull together when something bad happens, whether it be those who go to help, those who give money, or just those that pray.
Just because we have evolved to be the most powerful species on this planet, it doesn't give us the right to treat everything else as if it it's ours to do with as we please. If we think of ourselves as a collective organism (mankind/humankind) then our instinct should be to protect our environment for our future generations - to work towards a global balance. Despite all the wars and political and religious unrest in the world, it isn't impossible to achieve, although it's unlikely it will happen in our lifetime.
