How can you make a 67 Mustang get better traction?
345 horsepower 302, 125-hp nitrous system, 4-speed, 4.86 gear, power range is 4500-7800 rpm. I run a 28-9.0 ET Drag slick. Suspension is stock leaf spring with cheap traction bars. I'd like to keep regular shocks on the car, since it is only driven on the street.
Shade tree - funny you should day a 302 revving 7800 won't last long. Call me a liar as many have, but I'd rev it that high all day long without a worry. I built the engine in 1990 and it has never been out of the car! I beat it to death every time I drive it. I use the NOS frequently and speed shift every time I run it through the gears. People don't realize what you can get away with with a 3" stroke. There is no piston speed!
7800 isn't too unbelieveable, my 340hp crate 302 spins to 7000 like it's cool!
Anyway, I just ditched the 41 year old springs in the back of my 67 Mustang and haven't seen the need to put my slappers back on. You could try under rider traction bars or fab up a set of ladder bars with the new springs. It's hard to get a leaf spring car to stick.
When all else fails, run some 28-12 slicks.
